Something Like Home Educators’ Guide

A moving novel in verse in which a lost dog helps a lonely girl find a way home to her family . . . only for them to find family in each other along the way. From the Newbery Honor Award-winning author of Iveliz Explains It All.

My Father, The Panda Killer Discussion Guide

A poignant coming-of-age story told in two alternating voices: a California teenager railing against the Vietnamese culture, juxtaposed with her father as an eleven-year-old boat person on a harrowing and traumatic refugee journey from Vietnam to the United States.

ALA Youth Media Awards (YMA)

Each year, the American Library Association (ALA) honors books, videos, and other outstanding materials for children and teens. Recognized worldwide for the high quality they represent, the ALA Youth Media Awards (YMA), which include the prestigious Newbery, Caldecott, Printz, and Coretta Scott King Book Awards, guide parents, educators, librarians, and others in selecting the best materials for youth. Selected by committees composed of librarians and other literature and media experts, the awards encourage original and creative work in children’s and young adult literature and media.

The 2024 Youth Media Award announcements will take place on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, at 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. EDT during LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience. Those not in Baltimore, MD, for LibLearnX can watch a live stream of the award announcements, which will also be available on the American Library Association Facebook page. The 2023 announcements include two ALA Affiliate Awards, the Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature, and the Sydney Taylor Book Award.
